I feel like every single blogger associates Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess range with the sun, sand and sea. The range is released every summer, and includes a variety of different body and makeup products.
I’ve been wanting the Eau Fraiche Skinscent for a few summers now, as the Eau de Parfum just seems quite expensive for a seasonal product, at £80 per 100ml. I finally caved and bought the Skinscent on offer at The Frangrace Shop before my holiday in June. It cost me around £35 for 50ml, rather than the usual £42 when it’s not on offer.
Estee Lauder describes the scent as “a sensuous, sun-drenched blend of Bergamot, warm Amber, Tiare Flower and Vanilla combined with delicious creamy Coconut.”
This is pretty spot on. It’s like suncream and summer in a bottle and I absolutely love it. But, I’ve found a far, far cheaper dupe!
Hawaiian Tropic has recently brought out a range of 250ml body mists for £10 each (but they’re always on offer in either Boots or Superdrug). One of these is the scent Golden Paradise, which is described as “warm sand and creamy coconut. From glistening sand to warm sultry skin, the irresistible signature scent of Hawaiian Tropic exudes a beachy glow from head to toe.” Sounds pretty similar to Bronze Goddess, right?!
So, I put them up against each other, and here’s my results:
Obviously Hawaiian Tropic’s Golden Paradise wins here. At £10 for 250ml, this is a bargain!
When first applied, I have to admit that Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess is a lot nicer. It has a creamier, more luxurious scent. However, when these have both been on the skin for about an hour, you can’t really tell the difference between the two. They both just smell warm, coconutty, sweet and summery.
The bargain-buy wins for longevity! Bronze Goddess is actually a bit rubbish and wears off after about three hours (I assume the Eau de Parfum is much better, but who wants to pay £80 for a holiday scent?!).
Golden Paradise has amazing staying power. I love it so much that I bought a bottle for my best friend too, and we often meet up after work and can tell when each other has applied this in the morning. It’s so good!
There’s no competition here. The Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess bottle feels luxurious and heavy, while the Hawaiian Tropic Golden Paradise is in a cheap, plastic bottle. But if you’re planning on taking this on a sunny holiday, a plastic bottle is best for throwing in your beach bag and reapplying during the day to freshen up.
After years of drooling over Bronze Goddess at the Estee Lauder counter, I don’t think that I would repurchase now I’ve discovered Golden Paradise. It lasts longer, it’s far cheaper, and I don’t worry about losing it at the pool on holiday! I will definitely be picking up the other scents from the Hawaiian Tropic range.
Have you tried either of these?
